$2 Million Gift from Cummings to Help Regis Combat Nursing Shortage

WOBURN, MA– Cummings Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Cummings Properties, has pledged $2 million to Regis College. This donation will support the establishment of the Carol A. Donovan Endowed Dean of Nursing position and a future health care clinic in Woburn.

Donovan, a 1959 Regis alumna, dedicated 31 years to teaching in the Woburn Public Schools before embarking on a successful political career. She has maintained strong ties to both the Regis and Woburn communities, including serving as a trustee for Cummings Foundation. Donovan’s commitment to public service and healthcare has earned her recognition from Governor Healey’s administration.

Bill Cummings, founder of Cummings Properties, praised Donovan’s leadership and service to Massachusetts, stating, “We are honored to recognize her commitment to both the Commonwealth and Cummings Foundation with this investment in the next generation of health care professionals.”

Donovan expressed gratitude for the named gift, acknowledging the Cummings’ long-standing generosity in Woburn and beyond.

Regis College, facing a significant nursing shortage, has seen a 170 percent increase in enrollment at its Young Nursing School since 2011. The $2 million donation in Donovan’s honor will bolster the Regis endowment and establish a clinic in Woburn, providing students with practical clinical experience and serving the local community.

Regis College President Antoinette M. Hays, PhD, RN, praised the partnership with Cummings Foundation, stating, “This generous gift will allow Regis to expand its nursing and health sciences programs, offering students a state-of-the-art clinical environment while delivering essential healthcare services to the Woburn area.”

Cummings Foundation has previously supported Regis through its $30 Million Grant Program, funding initiatives such as the Regis Center for Global Connections and Cummings Nursing Resource Center. The Foundation’s commitment to healthcare education extends to institutions like Tufts University, Harvard Medical School, Endicott College, and the University of Global Health Equity.

The $2 million gift from Cummings Foundation represents a significant investment in addressing the nursing shortage and advancing healthcare education at Regis College.
